Natalie Imbruglia
Natalie Imbruglia is best known for her hit single “Torn”, which reached number two in 1998. But before she was a pop star, Natalie grew up in Mooloolaba. She attended Nambour High School before moving to Japan to pursue a modeling career. She returned to Australia to work as an actress on the popular soap opera Neighbors and then started her singing career in 1997 with her debut album Left of the Middle.
Imbruglia has gone on to release five more studio albums and has appeared in films such as Johnny English Rebooted and Closed for Winter. In addition to her music and acting career, she has also written four novels and is ambassador for the charity Oxfam Australia.
Rob Sitch
Rob Sitch is one of Australia’s most beloved actor-directors, having starred in and directed many iconic films over his career including The Castle (1997), The Dish (2000) and Thank God He Met Lizzie (1997). Rob was born in Brisbane but moved to Mooloolaba when he was young where he attended Maroochydore High School. After graduating from high school he went on to study law at the University of Queensland before turning his hand to comedy writing with his first writing job being an episode of ABC program The Gillies Report (1987-1988).
Sitch has directed some of Australia’s most successful films including The Castle which earned him an AFI Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1998; he also directed The Dish which won him the same award again in 2000. He continues to write, direct and produce films today under his production company Working Dog Productions which was founded by himself and three other partners in 1993.
Liz Cambage
Liz Cambage is one of Australia’s most successful net ballers having played professionally since 2008 both domestically and internationally including playing for Team GB at the 2016 Rio Olympics where she won gold medal with her team mates. Liz grew up in Mooloolaba where she attended Mountain Creek State High School before relocating interstate when she signed with AIS Canberra. She currently plays domestically for Collingwood Magpies Netball Club who won the Super Netball Grand Final this year making it two grand finals wins for Cambage!
Liz Cambage is an incredibly talented and well renowned netballer in Australia. She was the first player to score over 50 points in a single game, set a number of records through her career, and appeared the National team for a record-breaking 183 times. Liz has won almost every honour available in the netball world with highlights such as being awarded Player of the Year twice by Australia’s Netball Diamonds and being inducted into the International Netball Federation Hall of Fame. Liz Cambage’s performance has not only been honoured nationally, but she has received recognition on an international level as well. Through her achievements Liz has made sure that Australia stands at the forefront of netball excellence and cemented her legacy as one of our most successful net ballers.
Steve Irwin
Although not born or raised there, Steve Irwin spent much time visiting Mooloolaba during holidays when he was younger with his parents Bob & Lyn Irwin who owned a holiday property there throughout the 1970s & 1980s; His family still own a property there today & visit annually during Christmas holidays each year. Steve sadly passed away whilst filming Ocean’s Deadliest documentary off Far North Queensland but left behind an incredible legacy as one of Australia’s most beloved wildlife documentary presenters & conservation advocates having hosted Crocodile Hunter from 1996–2007 & also appearing on various wildlife documentaries around the world throughout his lifetime – we can all thank Steve for inspiring generations of people about our amazing wildlife down under!
